Champion for Education

As an educator and champion for local education, I’ve committed my life and career to improving our schools.

My role as a School Board Member gives me an understanding of the role public schools plays in ensuring the success of all students. I have been a champion for early childhood education; science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) initiatives; increasing parent involvement; and committed to responsible and equitable fiscal oversight. While on the School Board, graduation and college-going rates continue to be above the state average; there has been an increased investment in student academy opportunities (i.e. Entrepreneurship, Health, Computer Science, Media Arts, etc.); increased funding for facilities renovations and upgrades through community support; maintained and expanded arts programs for all students; and supported our educators through the roll-out of Common Core. These areas will continue to be important to me in the state assembly.

I support maintaining and expanding career and technical education to students. While on the school board we have worked with our community college to expand some of these opportunities for students, which include health, culinary, and auto mechanic pathways.

As both a k-12 school board member and an educator in higher education, my top priorities include supporting efforts to stabilize funding for both K-12 and higher education; supporting ongoing rollout of common core for K-12 — which includes assessments and professional development; and supporting and creating college access and college readiness opportunities for students.
